What is a power flush
Leaking pipe work / valves
Having sludge, limescale and debris running round the central heating system will cause corrosion. You will normally notice this around the radiator valves, pipework or radiators. Leaving this without treatment will eventually cause holes in the heating system and may start leaking or a new radiator may be required. By having a central heating power flush can clear the dirty contaminated water to prevent it getting any worse.
Partially Hot Radiators
If you notice the radiators are not heating up at the bottom then this is caused by a build up of sludge. Having a chemical power flush will resolve this problem and the radiators will start working to their fully capacity.
Heating up slowly
If your radiators are slow to heat, then you could have sludge in your system. Sludge slows heating times down and lessons heat output. A clean system running on a serviced boiler will always heat up fast.
If the radiators are taking a long time to heat and are only getting partially warm this is a build up of sludge in the heating system stopping the water to flowing properly.
Dark Coloured Water
When you bleed your radiators and you noticed dirty water coming out this is a sign the central heating needs power flushing, the water should be clear.
Noisy radiator / boiler
When running correctly central heating systems run quietly. When components such as pipes, the boiler, radiators or central heating pump are noisy then there is usually an issue somewhere in the system.
The issue could be sludge. A full analysis of the system by one of our engineers will establish if your systems has built up sludge and needs Power Flushing.
A clean heating system and boiler when running should run quietly. If you notice banging, kettling or knocking noises this is a sign there is a problem with in the heating system and needs a complete clean.
Boiler over heating
If you notice the gas boiler keeps going off and on this could be water in the system and it is not flowing properly causing the boiler to overheat and cut off.
Our power flushing procedure
Booking an appointment
Once the estimate has been accepted we can arrange a date that suits you to complete the power flush. A standard power flush normally take around four hours
Setting up power flush machine
The engineer will set the power flush machine up to the nearest radiator to the back or front door so the machine can be kept outdoors if possible.
Connections for hoses
We will need to connect a hose to an outside tap and a drain to empty the water into.
Power flushing the system
All the radiators are flushed individually backwards and forward till the water in the radiator runs clear using FX2 chemicals.
Chemical flushed
Once all the heating system has been flushed we then put neutralising crystals into the system to clean out the FX2 chemicals
Power flush completed
Once it has been flushed through and the water is crystal clear we add an inhibitor, turn heating on and test.
